Reaching New Heights- MC Mary kom

When you hear the name “MC Mary kom” the image of the young girl who honored the country with world championship for female boxing would suddenly appear in your mind. Behind her image, she carries the story of the small village “Imphal” and the tribes of Manipur. She proved greatly that poverty, lack of facilities and poor living conditions cannot affect the talent, dedication and the determination.

 Women's Dritish Open Golf Tournament MC Mary kom, the first woman boxer who won the world championship three years in a row has become the pride of India in world athletics. She was paid tributes by the country with Arjuna Award (2004) and the Padma Shri (2006).

Young MC Mary kom exhibited the aggressive instinct and the vigor in her school life and entered the athletics as a professional female boxer in 1999. Boxing is her in-built talent, which she improved upon by regular practice, and emerged as a winner. In her remarkable sports life, she gradually reached the state championship and then the national championship, and successfully entered the international level exhibiting the strength of the Indian woman.

Her community including her farther was unwilling to accept this game, as it seems more violent and aggressive. However, after she won the world championship she broke all the barriers and busted all the myths about the game as well as women.

In Manipur, there is a boxing academy named after MC Mary kom and now she teaches boxing to kids when she comes back home after matches.

This world famous patriot woman, post hearing the national anthem at the occasion wherein she was awarded the world championship, had moist and tearful eyes.

This girl form the small village brought forth a new platform for female boxing and upheld the name of the country all over the world. Her next destination is the Olympics, where she dreams to win a gold medal, thus making not just her community but her country proud and victorious.
